The Sundre Fire Department participated in annual holiday celebrations on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 17 when the hall hosted Santa Claus, who came with treat bags to wish a Merry Christmas to children eager to visit with him.

The hunting season largely wrapped up at the end of November, although cougar and cow elk seasons remain ongoing.

Although efforts to reduce instances of drunk driving seem to be yielding positive results, people are still urged to make plans to get home safely from their holiday celebrations this season.

Often celebrated when recognizing Canadian culture are our Eurocentric roots of hardy, steadfast pioneers who trail blazed all the way across a vast, often hostile environment with simple technologies.

An early interest in hunting became an enduring passion for Chester Mjolsness, who helped establish the World of Wildlife exhibit at the Sundre Pioneer Museum 10 years ago. “I always loved to hunt,” the 97-year-old recently told the Round Up.

The hard work of Sundre Santas volunteers who have been busy since September has come to fruition. "Everything is aligning up great," said Cherie Johnson, Greenwood Neighbourhood Place family and youth coordinator.

Sundre resident Annette Rose has accumulated quite a unique collection of Santa Claus figurines since stumbling upon a piece that caught her eye at a garage sale in 1992. "There are not two alike," she told the Round Up, adding there are about 225 Santas in her collection. Anyone who's interested in taking a look at her collection can contact Rose at 403-638-2141 to arrange a time to visit. Her only request is a donation for the Sundre Santa's food drive.
