Sundre’s council chamber became a temporary emergency operations centre last week during a crisis preparedness drill.

Probably the last thing on people’s minds as they continue to trudge through extreme cold and enduring snow is the start of the fire season.

All things considered, the outcome following a recent structure fire was about as ideal as one could hope for in such a situation, said Sundre Fire Department’s chief.

Work on the community gazebo is expected to get started within the coming months once conditions can accommodate construction.

Sundre’s administration will be reviewing information submitted by members of the public regarding concerns about the mini-roundabout project, and will bring back a report to council that could include recommendations.

Sundre’s council unanimously agreed last week to recess a public hearing on the proposed southwest industrial area structure plan pending further discussions with Mountain View County.

If all goes according to plan, an Alberta-based company could potentially be poised to begin deploying broadband high-speed Internet infrastructure in Sundre starting next year.

The third Red Deer suspect who was arrested following a dangerous police pursuit through the Sundre RCMP detachment’s jurisdiction received two years probation after pleading guilty to several charges.

An increased number of volunteers helping people to file simple income tax returns will substantially help facilitate this year’s effort to process the paperwork, said Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society’s community resources coordinator.
