SUNDRE – The Town of Sundre's council recently accepted some invitations including a commitment to contribute a memento for Mountain View Seniors’ Housing's time capsule that will be opened in 2035.

Established in 1960, Mountain View Seniors’ Housing is celebrating 65 years with plans to host a special ceremony on June 4 featuring a barbecue lunch and entertainment at the Sundre Seniors’ Supportive Living centre, which is among the several facilities the foundation operates in municipalities throughout the region.

The mayor and council were invited to attend along with an additional request to offer a few words as well as provide a written message to be included in a time capsule that will be opened at the 75th anniversary in 2035.

Mayor Richard Warnock said during the regular May 12 meeting that he hopes there will be someone representing the municipality there for the capsule’s opening when the time comes.

The mayor also suggested going one step farther by preparing a video message including all members of council expressing their support for the facility.

“I actually like that idea quite a bit,” said Coun. Chris Vardas.

“But as long as it’s not like back in the day where you have a floppy disk and when they open it up (years later) they can’t use it,” said Vardas, eliciting a few laughs.

The mayor said he hadn’t considered future compatibility and Coun. Todd Dalke suggested a USB key would probably do the trick.

Council also accepted invitations for the mayor or a designate to attend the Canada Day flag raising on July 1 at the Sundre and District Museum as well as the annual car show and award presentation that takes place the same day.
