SUNDRE – Dozens of community volunteers recently gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223 in Sundre to enjoy some entertainment in their honour.

With support from the Town of Sundre, Mountain View County, and Family Community Support Services Sundre, the Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society organized the 2025 volunteer celebration event on Friday, April 25, when Doris Daley and Al “Doc” Mehl performed some cowboy poetry and original music.

“We had a fantastic turnout for this year’s volunteer appreciation event,” said Bree Odd, one of the society’s two program coordinators, adding approximately 70 people attended.

The evening also included some refreshments courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary, who provided coffee and tea along with some treats.

“Their ongoing involvement in the community is deeply appreciated,” said Odd.

The turnout represented but a small portion of all the community’s volunteers who make Sundre an even better place.

“Sundre is home to over 400 volunteers supporting more than 60 non-profit organizations and this event was a chance to celebrate that impact,” she said.

Offering some words of praise and gratitude were MLA Jason Nixon, Town of Sundre Mayor Richard Warnock as well as Mountain View County Reeve Angela Aalbers.

There were also some door prizes and goody bags for volunteers who came out.

Odd expressed appreciation for all of the contributions volunteers make in the community.

“You really do make waves.”
