SUNDRE – The new war memorial that is replacing the old cenotaph at the Veterans’ Homecoming Park in Sundre is progressing along with a crew recently completing a concrete pour for the new and substantially expanded foundational base.

Landscaping work is next up on the docket and expected to take place in the coming weeks, and volunteers who want to get involved are invited to lend a hand.

It will then just be a matter of waiting for the granite monument to arrive this fall early in November just in time to be unveiled for Remembrance Day, said Moe Fahey, the Town of Sundre’s events and festivals coordinator, who expressed gratitude to Rick Martin and Les Martin for hauling away the old remnants of concrete as well as Sundre Soils for donating grass seed and fertilizer.

Anyone who is interested in helping with the landscaping work is invited to contact Fahey either by calling 403-636-1024 or by emailing [email protected].
