SUNDRE – Nobody was hurt and a Sundre residence remains habitable following a minor fire on Monday morning that was caused by a cigarette butt.

A Sundre Fire Department crew responded shortly after 9 a.m. on May 12 to the structure fire on Centre Street South near the entrance to the Greenwood Campground.

Sam Zhao, the town’s community peace officer who attended the scene, reported that the fire had started as a result of a cigarette butt and subsequently spread into a wall but fortunately caused only minimal damage.

No one sustained any injuries and the residence remains habitable, Zhao said.
