In 1913 a Senate report on Western Canada's resources lamented that the oilsands were too far from market. Rugged terrain and distance defied economical pipelines.

Despite marijuana being legal, we suspect not a lot will change. It is an end of an era. On Oct. 17, recreational or adult-use marijuana officially became legal in Canada ending a 95-year prohibition. Will anything really change? We suspect not.

Re: “Safety audit highlights concerns”, p. 1, Oct. 16 Gazette. Regarding the article about the safety audit of the Didsbury Fire Department (DFD), several key statements stand out to me.

Tragically there would be no ambulance to chase in the hunt for eight-year-old Tori Stafford. By the time her small body was finally found, hidden under a pile of rocks, there was no need to rush to hospital. By then she’d been dead for three months.

While it goes without saying that criminals should be the ones to pay for their misdeeds, victims of crimes are all too often the ones who suffer long-term impacts.

As the person who registered the Mountainview Marksman's Range in 1983 and has been a continuous member of the executive for 35 years I would like to give a brief history.

With Halloween on the horizon I think back to my childhood. We lived down a country road with few close neighbours. Most of those had no children at home. I don’t recall that anyone ever came by for treats: no costumes, no masks and no shenanigans.
