Olds RCMP are investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 2 today (Wednesday, Aug. 1) about five kilometres south of the Highway 27 overpass.

Lightning struck a vintage barn at the intersection of highways 2 and 27 and set it on fire during a thunderstorm July 30. An Olds Fire Department (OFD) news release says property owners saw the lightning strike occur.

The number of building permits issued by the Town of Olds during the first six months of this year is down from the same period a year ago, but the total value of all permits issued so far is more than double last year's figures at this time.

A severe thunderstorm Monday evening (July 30) dropped water pumping capacity in two Olds pumping stations and sparked a fire in one.
