Mountain View Pistons founder eyes bigger show and shine

Club's 18th event attracted about 200 entries

OLDS — Mountain View Pistons founder Trevor Bateman was relatively pleased with the number of vehicles entered in the club's 18th annual show and shine, held July 12 during the Summer Oldstice promotion in Uptowne Olds.

He estimated that about 180, perhaps 200 vehicles were entered this year.

“We usually get about 180 and I think we're probably around 200 right now. I'm guessing,” he said during an interview with the Albertan.

He said in terms of entries, the club is now back to where they were before COVID interrupted them.

Bateman would like to see entries go way higher, as it is in other communities.

“Olds has never been a big show for whatever reason. I don't know. We're trying to make it a bigger show. But you go to some of the other outlying areas, like Three Hills, High River, they're huge shows like five (hundred), 700 cars,” he said.

“We're little, so we're trying to make it bigger as we go. But it, but it takes a town, right? You can't just say, OK, we're going to shut down the streets. You need people, you need volunteers. You need the backing.”

The show and shine, along with Summer Oldstice, were rained out during the originally-scheduled date in June, hence the new date in July.
