OLDS — Council has rezoned a Town of Olds' property that was formerly used by the operations department from light industrial to central commercial.

The land in question is located just east of the railway tracks along 51st Street. The street address is 4818 51st St.

Council was told that zoning fits better with the East Olds Area Redevelopment Plan which calls for land in the area to be zoned for mixed use development.

During a Nov. 12 public hearing on the matter, municipal land use planner Kyle Sloan said the proposed change was advertised in late October and early November.

Notice of the planned change was also circulated to eight neighbouring property owners.

“While we didn’t receive any correspondence for or against, we did receive one inquiry from a neighbouring property owner, the church that is just to the north, across the lane,” Sloan said.

He said church representatives were curious about the type of development that the change to central commercial zoning could allow.

“We had that discussion, but we didn’t receive any concerns,” he said.
