OLDS – Representatives of five local organizations have split a total of $2,800, disbursed this year from the Chic & Billie Miller Endowment Fund.

The endowment recipients were announced on June 1 during a ceremony at the Olds United Church.

Following are this year’s recipients:

So Grateful to Sew have received financial assistance to purchase quilt batting for their projects which materially and financially benefit Kirsten’s Place, the newly built emergency shelter.

The Olds Amateur Football Association received funds to help purchase equipment, upgrade fields, and work toward buying sea cans to use as change rooms and storage.

Money the Olds Art Club received will go toward upgrading physical displays and signage.

Members of the Men’s Shed of Olds are building outdoor furniture for Kirsten’s Place. Their share of the endowment funds will help cover the cost of supplies.

In preparation for the opening of Kirsten’s Place domestic violence shelter, the Mountainview Emergency Shelter Society is buying a desktop computer and printer for client use. The money they received will help cover the cost of that purchase.

The endowment fund was created by Chic, who was a businessman, author, philanthropist and community booster and supported projects that met the needs of the community.

The fund is invested through the United Church of Canada with the stipulation that interest generated from the fund is disbursed to community organizations each year.
