OLDS — Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel responded to a report of a gas leak on 52nd Street in front of Olds & District Evergreen Centre this morning.

Olds Fire Department Chief Justin Andrew said the call came in at 8:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

About 12 firefighters, along with RCMP and EMS responded.

Crews “established a perimeter around the location and evacuated a few residents across the street and the patrons of the Evergreen Centre and the library,” Andrew wrote in an email.

“This was done as a precaution while ATCO Gas service personnel responded to clamp and repair the leak.”

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

Andrew said it was resolved completely in about an hour-and-a-half.

“All residents and patrons were allowed to return to their property in short order,” he wrote.

The exact cause of the leak is still being investigated, but it's suspected to be linked to construction currently underway along 52nd Street in the area.
