1947 – 2025
The family of Mrs. Starr Grover of Penhold, Alberta sadly announces her passing at Innisfail Hospital on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the age of 77 years.
Starr was born on October 17, 1947 in Innisfail, Alberta. Starr grew up on a farm near Markerville and attended schools in the area. She was active in sports and community events with her family.
Starr loved family get-togethers at holiday celebrations, especially Christmas, and campouts at tractor shows and reunions. She enjoyed time with her grandkids, driving around with them on her golf cart, and loved heading out in all directions in the motorhome with Terry or out for a drive to pop in and visit friends and family
. A long time resident of Penhold, Mrs. Grover was involved in setting up the Penhold & Districts Public Library, helped found the first Penhold Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, and taught Sunday School for 16 years at Chalmers Church. She also put on movies and old time dances with live bands at the Memorial Hall once a month, as well as helping with the kid’s Christmas hayrides.
Starr owned and operated the Penhold grocery store, curled and worked at the curling concession. She was a member of the Penhold Seniors Drop In Centre, the Innisfail Legion Branch #104, International Harvester Chapter 38, the Markerville Machinery Club and Starr was made a life-time member of Pioneer Acres Plowman and Threshermen’s Club at Irricana in 2014.
She leaves to mourn her devoted husband and best friend of 57 years, Terrence; a son, Duane (Tracy) of Innisfail; two daughters, Rochelle (Ron) of Blackfalds and Roxanne (Gary) of Fox Creek; three granddaughters, Sera, Grace and Rose; two grandsons, Ryan and Luke; and two step-grandsons, Austin and Braden. Mrs. Grover is survived by a sister, Betty Holt, of Innisfail.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Wacker and Gail Bailey of Innisfail; two brothers, Barry Moxness of Eckville and Bruce Moxness of Markerville; and her parents, Edward and Anna Moxness of Penhold.
A small family internment is planned for Tindastoll Cemetery at a later date where Starr will rest in peace. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
