MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a rainfall warning Monday for a wide swath of municipalities surrounding Calgary including Mountain View County and urban centres near it.
“Heavy rain has developed near Calgary and will expand towards Pincher Creek this morning,” the federal agency’s 5:35 a.m. July 14 weather alert for the area said.
Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 millimetres (mm) is expected.
A rainfall warning is issued in Alberta when 50 mm or more of rain is expected within one hour.
Included in the rainfall warning is:
• Mountain View County near Sundre, Cremona, Water Valley, Carstairs, Didsbury and Olds
“Rain will taper off this evening in Calgary. In Pincher Creek the heavy rain will end Tuesday morning,” the weather alert said. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
The federal agency advises that If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
“Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts,” the alert concluded.
