A fairy tale come-from-behind win in their first game of the annual Spartan Classic hoops tournament propelled the host Olds High School senior girls basketball squad to a runner-up finish.

The Olds College mixed curling team will advance to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference at Lakeland College in Vermilion after posting a 4-2 record at the winter regional bonspiel held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at NAIT.

The Olds College women's volleyball team swept their rivals from Lethbridge College on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-14, 25-22, 25-22, respectively.

To help dig the club out of a debt of more than $100,000, the Olds Grizzlys are hoping to pre-sell 500 season tickets by early April for the 2014-15 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

For 50 minutes, the Olds Grizzlys played nearly flawless shutout hockey against the visiting Drumheller Dragons on Jan. 31.

The 10-year-old had the teenager dead in his sights then let the ball go as hard as he could. Wham! Dwight Budden, coach of the Innisfail Junior Dodgeball Association (IJDA), goes out of the game. Again. ìI'm used to this,î said Budden.

The Innisfail Junior High Cyclone girls are running for the championship. ìTo dateÖî said coach Derek Baird, ìÖour girls are undefeated in the Central Western Alberta Junior High School Athletic Association (CWAJHAA) with seven wins and no losses.

Innisfail-area athlete Conor Sinammon is going for the gold in Banff and Canmore next month as part of the Zone 4 Alberta Winter Games Volleyball team. ìI was invited to be part of the Zone 4 team last year,î said Sinammon.

Olds High School wrestlers went up against strong competition on Feb. 1 at the University of Alberta's Butterdome, coming away with one medal.

The Eaglettes will be landing on Feb. 7 during the first period intermission of the senior men's hockey game between the Innisfail Eagles and Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs.
