CARSTAIRS -- The Russian curling team competing at the upcoming World Men's Championships has been practising at the Carstairs Curling Club.

Olds throwing coach and athlete Rachel Andres has big plans for the upcoming outdoor season. Andres finished in first place in the shot put open category during the Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships, held March 8-10 with a throw of 12.

Local throwing athlete Haylin Eling closed out her first indoor season at the Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships with some strong results. The meet was held March 9-10 in Edmonton. On Saturday, March 9 Eling threw 10.

Junior curling coach Heather Budd says the first junior curling bonspiel organized by her group was such a success they're already planning to hold another one next year.

A Sundre High School student soared into second place recently during an indoor track and field event hosted in Edmonton. Grade 11 student Evyn Read joined the University of Calgary Athletics Club (UCAC) earlier this school year.

The Olds High School Spartans senior girls' basketball season is over for another year. It didn't end the way they'd hoped.

RED DEER – Olds College Broncos female hockey team assistant coach Allyson Bendfeld played an important role on Team Alberta’s women’s hockey team, which won the gold medal during the Canada Winter Games. The Games were held Feb.

Olds Koinonia Christian School (OKCS) basketball teams have won two zone championships and picked up silver and bronze in two others. The senior girls won the 1A zones, defeating Bassano 90-53 in the finals.

Four local therapists from Olds were part of the medical staff during the Canada Winter Games. They are certified athletic therapists Rebecca Henderson, Paige Shannon and Marilyne Doucet, along with massage therapist Marcie Rae Thompson.

The AHJL hockey season has concluded for the Olds Grizzlys and the Albertan spoke to head coach Joe Murphy to reflect on the season. The team compiled six wins, 51 losses and three overtime losses.
