Rodeo in Mountain View County celebrates its 119th year

The 119th Dog Pound Stampede included competition in ranch broncs, saddle bronc, novice horse riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping and more.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – The 119th annual Dog Pound Stampede held July 16 and associated ranch rodeo the night previous was well received.

There was a special Calcutta event at the start of the Tuesday’s Dog Pound Ranch Rodeo to raise funds for the Steffler family.

Main rodeo action – sanctioned by Foothills Cowboy Association and co-sanctioned by Lakeland Rodeo Association – got underway on the Wednesday morning.

Results

In saddle bronc, Blain Pengelly won with a score of 76 while Colten Powell came in second with a 74. Peter Duff placed third with a 73.

In novice horse riding, Jaxon Campbell placed first with a 61 and Charlie Guinn came in second with a 57.

Guinn placed first in ranch broncs with a 70, followed by Lukas Komant with a 66 and Noa Van den Eijnden with a 63.

Greg Mulhall took grand prize in steer wrestling with a time of 6.7 seconds. Wyatt Dillmen placed second with 10.6 and Colton Ward took third with a time of 12.2.

Blake Zieffle won tie-down roping with a time of 8.9, followed by Colt Van Straten with 9.6 and Randon Ross with 9.7.

Harper Walker won junior breakaway with a tie of 6.14.

In junior steer riding, Rex Curtis placed first with a 78, Colt Gunderson came in second with a 71 and Daxton McKean placed third with a score of 70.

In junior bull riding, Koaltyn Ogilvie scored a 69 to take first place. Colt Richards and Matthew Holloway tied for second with a 66. Levi Robbins placed third with 66.

Gordon Gulick and Chad Gulick won the team roping event in 6.5 seconds. Colby Stark and Trey Erion placed second with a time of 8.3 while Caleb Fawcett and Matt Fawcett took third with a time of 11.2.

Joey Baker was the bull riding champion of the event, scoring a 55.
