OLDS – Ken Griffith and Cathy Spicer are HUB Insurance Seniors Open golf champions after winning the men’s and ladies divisions of the tournament June 11 at the Olds Golf Club.
Griffith won the low gross in the men’s championship flight with a two-under-par score of 70. Keith Newton had the best low net score in that flight; an identical score of 70.
Spicer won the championship flight low gross in the ladies division in a playoff with a two-over-par score of 74. Susan Plum won the low net battle with an even par 72.
Les Swelin won the championship flight in the Super Senior Men’s division with a low gross score of 74. Bob Allan had the best low net score (+3/75).
But those successes weren’t the only great achievement that occurred at the club that day.
Andrew Williams got a hole-in-one on the 330-yard par 4 17th hole, the first time that’s ever happened in that hole in the history of the course.
“It’s rare enough to get an albatross (-3 on a single hole) but further rarer to have a hole-in-one on a par 4,” Olds Golf Club pro and manager Mathew MacDonald wrote in an email.
“A truly tremendous achievement.”
