Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning Wednesday for municipalities east of Highway 2 bordering Mountain View County.
The early morning July 30 warning was issued for Alberta municipalities including:
• Kneehill County near Torrington, Wimborne, Three Hills, Trochu, Huxley, Acme, Linden and Carbon; and
• Rocky View County near Irricana, Beiseker, Kathyrn, Chestermere, Dalroy, and Dalemead.
Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius (C) with overnight low temperatures ranging between 14 to 18 C are forecast to begin today and continue through the week, the federal agency’s 4:32 a.m. weather alert for the affected areas said.
Heat warnings are issued when two or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 29 C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 14 C or warmer.
The weather alert said the heat warnings will end this weekend as daytime high temperatures return to the mid-20 C range.
Environment and Climate Change Canada advises residents of and visitors to the warned regions to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their families and their neighbours:
• Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.
• Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.
• Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.
• Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.
