The new Innisfail fire hall is getting closer to completion. “It's pretty soon,” said John Syroid, the Innisfail fire chief. He couldn't give an exact move-in date but said there's just a few things left before the department can occupy the space.

A tractor went up in flames on June 9 on a field just outside of Innisfail. “The hydraulic system failed on a tractor,” said Innisfail Fire Chief John Syroid. The tractor was in a green field but was “fairly close” to an oil pumping station.

Drug bust A sheriff pulling a vehicle over for speeding on July 6 ended up leading to the discovery of drugs and an illegal immigrant. At about 11 p.m. a sheriff pulled over a vehicle for speeding on the QEII.

It wasn't their usual time to buy a lottery ticket, but for Darcy Milligan and husband Michael Strelbisky, June 20 turned into their lucky day. The Penhold couple ended up winning $100,000 on the Lotto Max ‘Extra' June 22 draw.

A “labour of love” that took about three and a half months of work stands in Ken McCarthy's Penhold yard in the form of an unusual church. The church is unusual because of its size – it's miniature.

Bombing murder case put over The next appearance for the man accused in the bombing murder of Vicky Shachtay will be Aug. 1.

A fire that started in the dishwasher caused some pricey damage to a Penhold home on June 30. Penhold fire chief Jim Pendergast said two homeowners suffered from smoke inhalation after their dishwasher went up in smoke at about 1:30 p.m.

London-style cabs will be rolling into town later this month as part of an initiative with the Royal Bank of Canada to promote team spirit for the upcoming Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in London this summer.

There were no injuries when a train collided with a one-ton 2011 Ford truck shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Friday at the 17 Avenue and Highway 2A crossing in Bowden.
