WINNIPEG - When Lori Jean Meixner was visiting Winnipeg as a child there was a curious conversation during a game of Canasta between her grandmother Jean and several ladies she still vividly remembers today.

PENHOLD – The success of the Penhold Fire Cadet program continues. Two cadets graduated from the program this year in a ceremony at Penhold Crossing Secondary School on June 22.

PENHOLD – Town council passed a bylaw on July 10 to prepare for the fall municipal election. Penholders will once again be allowed to use electronic voting machines, a practice used successfully in the past three elections.

PENHOLD - A lightning strike from a late spring storm cutting across Central Alberta with high winds and rain knocked out the power from more than half of the town's homes and businesses during the early morning hours of June 9.

INNISFAIL - St. Mark's Anglican Church is celebrating a milestone anniversary. The local parish has served the community for 125 years and is welcoming residents to take part in a special anniversary celebration on April 30.

INNISFAIL - Red Deer County is doing its part to ensure urgent medical care for its residents. The county recently committed to per capita funding for STARS air ambulance and approved $2 per person at a council meeting earlier this year.

SPRINGBROOK - Water use in the community is back to normal this week after residents in Springbrook were without water for an entire day when a fire broke out at the water treatment facility in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

INNISFAIL - Innisfail and area children can learn about the world of aviation thanks to a volunteer program with the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA).

INNISFAIL - An Innisfail man is facing numerous Criminal Code charges following a complex investigation by Ponoka RCMP. Police said they received a report shortly before 7:30 a.m.

INNISFAIL - More than 200 people came out to enjoy a night of music, dancing, games, food and family fun during the annual Multicultural Dinner and Dance hosted by the Phil-Can Neighbourhood Association of Innisfail.
