RED DEER COUNTY – Jim Wood will serve as the mayor of the rural municipality for another four years. Unofficially, Wood, who has been mayor since 2010, defeated challenger Debra Hanna by a vote count of 2,311 to 1,181.

INNISFAIL – When Joe and Jody Desjardins arrived in town 15 years ago they had a dream to establish a business. Six years later they opened The Coffee Cottage on 49 Avenue.

INNISFAIL – They are the lucky seven – the town's good fortune to have serving the community bravely and unselfishly. The seven veteran Innisfail Fire Department volunteer firefighters were honoured last week with two awards.

PENHOLD - Fancy a brew made with local ingredients? Red Shed Malting - a family business located near Penhold - has started roasting locally grown malt barley. Malt barley is a key ingredient in beer.

INNISFAIL – For Bernie Vanderham and many of the other community award winners for 2017 it is simply all about the kids.

PENHOLD – Penhold has a new mayor. Mike Yargeau, 31, pulled in 516 votes, enough to oust incumbent mayor Dennis Cooper, who received 324 votes in the Oct. 16 municipal election.

INNISFAIL – Jim Romane has his old job back. Romane, the former mayor who bowed out in 2013 after Brian Spiller decided to challenge him, came back four years later to decisively defeat Spiller the incumbent for the town's top elected job.

BOWDEN -- Robb Stuart will serve as Bowden's mayor for another four years. According to unofficial results, Stuart beat former town councillor Earl Wilson for the post during Monday night's civic election, garnering 219 votes to Wilson's 99.

INNISFAIL – The final advanced polls for both Innisfail and Penhold have shown early signs of dramatically increased voter interest in both towns for tomorrow's (Oct. 16) municipal election.

SPRINGBROOK - Mounties are seeking the public's help to nab a group of gun-toting and machete-wielding individuals who committed a late evening attack and robbery just outside the hamlet.
