Innisfail RCMP charge Red Deer men stopped with 187 pounds of copper wire

RED DEER COUNTY -  Two Red Deer men suspected of setting fire to a big load of copper wire have been nabbed by Innisfail.

RCMP  Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a Sept. 4 news release that Innisfail RCMP responded to a report of a fire on Aug. 28 near the Highway 54 bridge.

He said Innisfail Fire Department firefighters had located two males burning copper wire.

Savinkoff said when police arrived the suspects attempted to leave the area in a truck and were stopped by police.

“During the traffic stop police could see what was estimated to be over 100 pounds of stripped copper wire in the back of the truck,” said Savinkoff. 

He said the driver and passenger of the truck were then arrested for possession of stolen property. 

Savinkoff said a search of the truck resulted in the seizure of 187 lbs. of copper wire. 

He said several break and enter tools were also located.

Savinkoff said Douglas MacQuarrie, 49, a resident of Red Deer, is charged with the following offences:
 
• possession of stolen property;

• unlawful burning of hazardous material;

• possession of break and entering tools, and

• failing to comply with release conditions.
 
Savinkoff said a judicial interim release hearing was held and MacQuarrie was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is slated for Sept. 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
 
Savinkoff said Tristan Foley, 29, a resident of Red Deer, is charged with the following offences:
 
• possession of stolen property, and

• unlawful burning of hazardous material.
 
A judicial interim release hearing was held, and Foley was released by Justice of the Peace, said Savinkoff. 

He said Foley’s next court appearance is Sept. 10  at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
