DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Fire Department responded to 64 calls for service in the first quarter of 2025, including a dozen for motor vehicle collisions and numerous fires, according to a recent report.
Between Jan. 1 and March 31, Didsbury Fire Department firefighters also responded to 15 alarms, two electrical hazards, 14 EMS assists, seven mutual aid calls, three service calls, three structure fires, one vehicle fire, and two wildland fires, according to a report presented to the Town of Didsbury's council on April 22.
Of the 64 calls, 27 were in town, 30 were in the rural area, five were rural mutual aid, and two were urban mutual aid.
During the first quarter the fire department saw two new recruits start the rookie training program and eight cadets (Grade 11 and 12 students) started the cadet program, four from Didsbury and four from Carstairs.
The department received its new 310 mobile command truck, and is currently awaiting quotes for box insert, decals, etc., for the new vehicle.
The Town of Didsbury's municipal enforcement department first-quarter report was also released.
Officers issued 235 provincial tickets, including 121 for speeding, 76 for failing to stop at stop sign, 16 for speeding through playground/school zones, and 22 other charges.
As well, 38 occurrence reports were undertaken, with 15 concluded, eight concluded with verbal warning, two concluded with written warning, one concluded by charge, seven still under investigation, one forwarded to another agency, and four unfounded.
Of the occurrences, 34.6 per cent were under the community standards bylaw and 34.6 per cent were from citizen concerns.
