DIDSBURY - Mountain View Family Resource Network (MVFRN) plans to use a $42,682 surplus realized in its 2024-25 budget to hire a term programmer position, according to the monthly chief administrative officer (CAO) report presented during the Aug. 26 regularly-scheduled council meeting.
The new position will be used to support youth in the county and .
MVFRN is a provincially-funded program that offers programs, supports and referrals for residents throughout Mountain View County and nearby urban centres. The Town of Didsbury holds the contract with the Government of Alberta for MVFRN.
The organization's contract realized a surplus of $42,682, which either has to be approved to be utilized or returned to the province, acting Didsbury CAO Amanda Riley said in the report.
The province allows the networks to make application to utilize surplus from the previous year as long as it meets one of three targets: enhance family resource network services, fill family resource network service gaps; increase services.
MVFRN made an application to use the surplus for an addition term programmer position that will “enable increased programs and services to our service area,” she said.
The focus of the term position will be on youth aged 12 to 18 years, “which is a population that is underserved within our region,” she said.
“The addition of this position would allow for the creation, promotion, and execution of programs for youth during the employment term, which could then be continued by existing staff for future years.”
The position will be established for a term of 28 weeks, with the position starting this month and concluding in March 2026.
All costs associated with the position will be funded provincially through the approved surplus.
