DIDSBURY - The Town of Didsbury's council has approved a new facility closures policy officially outlining usage times for municipally-owned facilities.
The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
Council referred the development of a a facility closures policy to the policies and governance committee for development in June 2024.
The new policy was presented to council for consideration on May 13.
Councillor and committee chairman Curt Engel told council, “This policy recognizes the variety of services that the town-owned facilities offer to the public and serves to set a level of service provided directly to the residents.”
The town owns and operates a variety of building types, all of which serve the public in some form, with some open to the public, some booked or used to host events, and some regularly closed to the public.
Buildings covered by the policy include the public works building, fire hall, town office, Didsbury Neighbourhood Place, and the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
The new policy recognizes the variety of services that town-owned facilities offer to the public but serves to set the level of service provided directly to residents, acting chief administrative officer Amanda Riley said in a briefing note to council.
“The policy enables administration to grant an exception to these established service levels in the event of an emergency or where service delivery is otherwise unfeasible,” she said.
“Furthermore, the policy outlines the requirements for information the public and council of a change in the level of service due to these circumstances or in the event that the chief administrative officer requires an all-staff meeting.”
Council carried a motion approving the new policy.
