Didsbury Memorial Complex grounds naming contest launched

New name for municipal grounds will be unveiled at the annual Showcase Didsbury in September

DIDSBURY - Residents are being encouraged to take part in a contest to find a new name for the grounds around the Memorial Complex.

The Outlining Plan Renaming Contest is open to all local residents and is open until June 30.

The so-called outlying area is the name for the park property outside the complex and includes the skatepark and the Jets playground.

Submissions will not be considered that include names of individuals or names that include inappropriate language and/or idea, chief administrative officer Ethan Gorner said in a briefing note to council.

Council will make the final decision on the park name, and will select the name from the submissions received.

“The new name will be unveiled at the annual Showcase Didsbury in September,” he said.

Administration plans to use all communication methods to collect submissions. A submission form is available on the town’s website and submissions can be made at drop boxes at the town office, Didsbury Neighbourhood Place and at the Memorial Complex.

Asked if the person who submits the winning entry will receive a prize, director of community services Nicole Aasen told the Albertan, “They will receive special acknowledgement at the unveiling celebration in September and likely a small prize to go with it.”
