DIDSBURY - The Kreiser Barbecue team from Didsbury has won a top prize at the recent American Royal World Series of Barbecue event in Kansas City.

Barry and Lana Kreiser competed at the U.S. event held Oct. 31 - Nov. 3.

“We were at the Royal to compete in barbecue against 444 of the best teams from around the world in competition barbecue,” Barry told the Albertan. “We are happy to share that we won one of the meat categories. We are now American Royal Barbecue World Champions for our win in the ‘Turkey Smoke’ category.

“Winning a protein category at the Royal is an honour that few barbecue teams get to experience and we're very grateful and still in shock at the accomplishment. There are very few Canadians that have won in the Royal.”

The team is also the Team of the Year for Chicken, he said.

Team Kreiser was one of many competitors at this summer’s Didsbury Lion’s Club charity Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) barbecue contest.
