DIDSBURY - Council has approved updated recreation rates and fees bylaw, which applies to various goods and services provided by the Town of Didsbury’s community services department.

The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

The bylaw incudes new rates for use of the town’s sports fields, the curling rink, aquatic centre and hockey arena, along with other town-owned spaces and equipment.

The updated bylaw calls for various rate and fee increases.

“Adjustments to the rates and fees are being proposed to keep pace with inflationary costs associated with operating facilities to maintain the current level of service,” said chief administrative officer Ethan Gorner.

The new rates and fees take effect on Sept. 1, 2024.

New rates for the Didsbury arena main ice in-season include $112/hour (up from $110) for youth local, $178 for youth non-local (from $170), $112 juniors practice (from $110), $144 juniors game (from $140), $147 adult local (from $144), and $215 adult non-local (from $210).

As well, Didsbury arena leisure ice in-season new rates include local $57/hour (from $55), non-local $75 (from $70), minor groups with both surfaces booked $42 (from $40), non-prime $45 (from $42).

New Didsbury Curling Club rates (all ice sheets) include adults $92/hour (from $90), seniors $82 (from $80), juniors $76 (from $75), farm and ranch $110 (from $105), and bonspiel $94 (from $90).

As well, the community rates include youth local $32/hour/sheet (from $30), youth non-local $52 (from $50), adult local $47 (from $45), and adult non-local $67 (from $65).

The financial planning committee recommended approval of the new recreation rates and fees.

The bylaw also includes a new $100 per month fee charged to the Mountain View Colts for the team’s dedicated dressing room, which is used exclusively by the team.

Councillors Curt Engel and Bill Windsor did not attend the June 25 council meeting.
