CARSTAIRS – Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) recently received a report from the Terry Fox Foundation that students collectively raised almost $23,000 for cancer research during last fall's annual Terry Fox Runs, division officials said in a press release.

The students brought in a combined total of $22,921, with Carstairs Elementary School alone contributing $4,337, the highest amount raised by a school in the Innisfail-based division.

Traci Upshaw is the principal of Carstairs Elementary School.

“Carstairs Elementary works hard to make the learning for students meaningful about the legacy of Terry Fox and we get great participation and engagement,” she said.

“Thanks to all the staff who make this a great experience for students, and also thanks to students and families for supporting this great cause.”

Chantal Snodgrass with the Terry Fox Foundation said more than $13 million was raised by students in Canada in 2024.

In a letter to CESD, she said, “Your family of schools set a shining example of what can be accomplished with a focused goal and a collaborative spirit of generosity and determination.”

The 11,700-student CESD includes schools across the district.
