Having served its purpose well, the former westbound detour route that throughout the redesign and complete overhaul of Highway 27-Main Avenue in Sundre had connected 1st Avenue NW – also known as Myron Thompson Avenue – with the highway has been closed and the temporary road has been ripped up now that two-way traffic on the high-load corridor has been restored. SUNDRE – With two-way traffic along Highway 27-Main Avenue restored, the temporary westbound detour route used throughout the course of construction work on the high-load corridor's redesign and overhaul is closed off.

According to the latest available update as of the time of posting, construction crews were in the final stretch of finishing the work.

"Crews are completing the last elements of the Highway 27 improvements," reads part of a statement issued the first week of August on the town's website.

"Work this week is focused on final paving, line painting, landscaping, and cleanup to get everything ready to wrap up by next week."

Originally expected to wrap up in October, the project is now shaping up to be completed months in advance in large part due to ideal conditions earlier this season that enabled the contractor to make far greater-than-anticipated progress.
