It is with dismay that I read the notice of the early closure (Sept. 28) of our residential branch dump site in Olds.
I fail to see the logic of this decision as it is my experience that the majority of trees in our town are not done shedding their leaves until the end of October.
We have a large yard with huge poplar trees and it is not unusual for us to gather over 40 large bags of leaves.
Over the years we were able to empty the bags in the now eliminated community bins.
We contacted the town's facilities and operations manager for an explanation and were told that the collection site is operated by temporary staff that has gone back to school and that the town has no more funds to keep it open any longer.
It was suggested we save our bags of leaves and dispose of them next spring.
When we inquired about the abundance of leaves that will fall in the park behind us by the elementary school we were informed that the town would collect them and burn them.
It seems to me that the Town of Olds is struggling in many areas regarding their budget and some decisions such as this one are not well thought out and certainly not acceptable.
