A man is dead after an alleged afternoon stabbing at an east-end home in Toronto, police said Tuesday.

Police said they responded to a report that someone had been stabbed at a home near Woodbine Avenue and O'Connor Drive just after 2:30 p.m.

They said officers found a man with life-threatening injuries and he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not immediately provide further details on the identity of the deceased.

Duty Insp. Brian Maslowski said one male is in custody and he was known to the alleged victim, but he declined to provide details on their relationship.

"This is a very serious homicide investigation," Maslowski said at a press conference Tuesday evening.

"We need to gather evidence and ensure for the integrity of the investigation that we have everything lined up."

Maslowski said anyone with information is urged to contact investigators.
