OLDS - Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta Nathan Cooper announced to his peers in the house on Wednesday that he would be resigning his position effective Monday, May 12 at midnight to take on a new appointment as the province's representative to the United States.

He will continue serving as MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills until taking on his new Washington, D.C. position in June.
