OLDS — The Town of Olds administration office officially opened in its new location on Monday, July 21.
It’s now located at what was formerly known as the municipality's Operations Centre on 70th Avenue, just north of Rotary Athletic Park. It’s now known as the Olds Municipal Centre.
Council made that name change during its July 14 meeting.
The move from the administration office's former location just east of Boston Pizza became necessary when the Town of Olds sold the building to Westview Co-op last November.
During discussion on the name change, Coun. Heather Ryan pointed out that all the town’s wayfinding signs will have to be changed to reflect the administrative office’s new location.
Chief administrative officer Brent Williams indicated that that detail will be taken care of.
“I'm pretty sure that that the average traveller or newcomer would understand that the municipal centre is administration. You can go there and pay your bills and do those kind of things,” Town of Olds Mayor Judy Dahl said, adding she believes residents will “catch on pretty fast.”
The move left town council without some of its regular devices during its July 7 committee of the whole meeting.
Deputy mayor Dan Daley, who chaired the meeting, warned his fellow council members to speak loudly because all their microphones had been taken out as part of the move. The office was closed as of July 5 to facilitate the move.
Throughout the meeting, movers could be seen trundling office equipment out to a large moving van.
