OLDS — Plans for the Oct. 20 municipal election in Olds have been hammered out.
Advance polls will be held Oct. 9, 16 and 18 in Jean’s Place, which is located in the Community Connection Centre.
On election day itself, polls will be open in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A new provincial law does not allow municipalities to use vote tabulating machines when counting the vote.
That means the Town of Olds will have to hire workers to count ballots – and probably a second shift of counters, because some workers likely will become tired and that could result in errors, legislative clerk Marcie McKinnon said during a council meeting.
“We'll be getting my texts at one or two in the morning instead of at 9:30 or 10:30,” she said.
“Results will be obviously a bit delayed, given the hand counting of ballot requirements, but Marcie runs a tight ship, so I'm sure she'll do great things,” the town's chief administrative officer said.
