Hydrant testing, maintenance begins Wednesday in Olds

Work begins in the northeast and will continue throughout the community
olds-news

OLDS — Starting Wednesday, the Town of Olds is doing routine maintenance and flow testing on hydrants throughout the community.

That work will begin May 21 in the northeast.

“This important work helps ensure that our fire hydrants are in proper working order and that our water system maintains adequate pressure and flow rates for emergency services and everyday use,” a Town of Olds news release says.

While the testing and maintenance is underway, residents may notice temporary discoloration of water, brief drops in water pressure and/or water in the streets as testing is undertaken.

Town officials have some advice if discoloured water is noticed:

• Run your cold water tap (preferably from the bathtub or a basement sink) for several minutes until the water runs clear.

• Avoid doing laundry during or immediately after testing in your area to prevent fabric staining.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain a safe and efficient water system,” the news release says.
