OLDS — Two of the slicker cars on display during the Mountain View Pistons’ recent show and shine in Olds were a red Pontiac Fiero and a 1981 Chevy Chevette.
Clayton Beach owns the Fiero on display July 12.
During an interview with the Albertan, Beach was asked how he came to own it.
He said a buddy let him know it was available in Lloydminster.
“I couldn't pass up the opportunity, so I drove all the way up there and brought it, drove it home,” he said.
“My first car show, I did a Fiero and so I figured I’d just keep it going and buy my own. So I bought one, doing it with this one.
“I've got an engine, a different engine, I guess, supercharged 3.8 I'd like to put in it make it real, real fast, but that's expensive.”
As it is though, it’s still fun to drive, he said.
Beach’s pal, Bryan Tolhurst, owns the Chevette.
He said although the Chevette was eventually discontinued, it lives on in another way.
“The new Corvette is based off of this car's technology,” he said. “They put the engine back behind the driver now. So, and that's what they did in that day with (this car).”
