February 5, 1940 – October 21, 2024

Hidzer Sietzema of Olds Alberta, passed away peacefully on Monday October 21, 2024, with family by his side, at the age of 84 years. Hidzer was born in Surhuizum (FRL), the Netherlands on February 5, 1940. Hidzer met the love of his life, Faye (Feikje) more than 60 years ago and together they raised 3 sons, Sietze, Menno  and Richard.

Hidzer grew up on a small dairy farm and operated the family run feed mill which was shut down in the early 1970’s.

He became a truck driver hauling concrete slabs first, and later on milk from farm to the Dairy plant. In 1981 Hidzer and Faye, with the three boys, immigrated to Tilley, Alberta, where they resided until they bought a dairy farm in Rosemary.

In 1990, the farm in Rosemary was sold and Hidzer moved his family to the Olds area, where they built a new dairy operation which is still going strong.  Hidzer was a do it your selfer and he enjoyed working with his hands by repairing equipment, fabricating and building things.  He always found time between farming and fixing to go to farm auctions, which he really enjoyed. Hidzer bought his first Friesian horse in 1995, and he and Faye were very much involved in the Friesian horse breeder’s community in both Canada and the US. He was one of the founders of the “Alberta Friesian Horse Association” with local breeders throughout Alberta and was involved for almost 25 years on the Calgary Stampede Committee. At one point, Hidzer and Faye had 17 Friesian horses on their farm.

On a well-deserved vacation to Mexico, they bought a property there, where he and Faye spent the last 15 winters. They enjoyed relaxing and hanging out with the many friends that they met over there.

Hidzer loved having a good time with his family and friends, he was always a crowd pleaser and made many people laugh.

Hidzer will be lovingly remembered by his wife Faye, his sons Sietze (Klazien), Menno (Marjolein), daughter in law Linda, his grandchildren, Dillon (Courtney), Jesse (Breanna), Chelsey, Dale and Payton and great grandson Miles.

He was predeceased by his parents Sietze and Hielkje, sister Tine and his son Richard (2021).  A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds Alberta.
