CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have re-signed forward Justin Kirkland to a one-year contract worth US$900,000, the NHL club announced Monday.

Kirkland put up the first points of his NHL career — two goals and six assists — in 21 games in 2024-25 before a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in a late November game against Columbus sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

He was selected 62nd overall by Nashville at the 2014 draft and previously played mostly in the American Hockey League, including with the Stockton Heat from 2019-20 to 2021-22.

He made his NHL debut with Anaheim in 2022-23 and played seven games with the Ducks before being involved in a serious car accident on Jan. 9, 2023, on the way to a game at Boston.

Kirkland has played 30 total NHL games with Anaheim, Arizona and Calgary.
