MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County's agricultural service board (ASB) has recommended the 2026 capital budget to the county's council for consideration.

The move came by way motion at the board’s recent, regularly-scheduled meeting. The budget includes proposed equipment purchases totalling just over $1 million.

“The county has a long-range equipment replacement schedule based on the anticipated life cycle of the asset,” administration said in the briefing note to the board.

“Before a unit is replaced an evaluation is performed to determined if the equipment is in need of replacement or can be deferred, keeping in mind that aging equipment may have a higher failure rate or increased repair costs which must be considered against the replacement costs.”

The proposed ASB’s capital budget is for replacement of existing equipment that has reached cycle replacement year or part of an annual replacement program, members heard.

Items proposed for purchase are 2021 Kubota rotary mower ($75,000), 2023 Kuhn ditch mower ($25,000), 2010 Dodge Ram 5500 crew cab ($150,000), 2019 Chevrolet 1500 ($95,000), and two 2021 John Deere 6135E tractor ($350,000 each).

The total requested capital purchases is $1,045,000, funded by equipment fleet reserve, without trade-in values.

The ASB is made up of county councillors and appointed public members.
