OLDS — Four members of the École Olds High School (ÉOHS) track and field team qualified for the provincial championship after turning in strong performances, despite rainy conditions during zones, held May 21 in Calgary.
They include:
• Ryder Persson, first in junior boys javelin;
• Kendra Larson, first in senior girls high jump;
• Sydney Van Ginhoven, first in senior girls 1500 metre (m) and third place in the senior girls 3,000m; and
• Jett Rosch, first in senior boys discus, second in senior boys shot put.
The provincial championship will be held June 6-7 in Calgary.
Other top performances included Talia Challoner, third in junior girls Javelin and Lily Van Ginhoven, third in junior girls1,500m.
“A big shout out to our senior high track athletes who competed in cold, windy, and rainy conditions Wednesday at zones. We are so proud of how they competed,” ÉOHS athletic director Jeff Clattenburg wrote to the Albertan in an email.
The junior high Spartans were also very successful during the divisional competition held May 22 in Sundre.
Six of those athletes have qualified to compete in south central zones May 27 in Calgary.
They are:
• Penny Syms, juvenile girls 400m and hurdles;
• Gabby Shroeder, juvenile girls 1500m and high jump;
• Cadence Witcher, juvenile girls triple jump;
• Berkley McDonald, juvenile boys 200m, 400m, and long jump;
• Sam Weigum, juvenile boys shot put; and
• Mukulu Shamvu, juvenile boys discus and javelin.
