Mountain View County election sees Kemmere, Heck and Sayer win

Al Kemmere has been re-elected to a fourth term in Mountain View County's Division 7, soundly defeating challenger Steve Algra in the Oct. 21 election. According to unofficial results, Kemmere garnered 263 votes against Algra's 118.

Kemmere said he is keen to get back to work on a number of projects, including working to improve the county's road network.

“Roads are an ongoing issue so that needs to be dealt with, and the financial part of the county too and that spills over into roads,” Kemmere told the Gazette. “Land use planning is also an issue, and communications with the towns and the Olds College and the provincial and federal governments. We got to keep working on those things.”

He commended challenger Algra for “running a nice clean campaign.”

“It's always nice to work with new blood and new ideas,” he said of the new council.

In Division 1, Jeremy Sayer defeated Brent Buschert to take the seat left vacant by incumbent Kevin Good, who chose not to seek re-election.

According to unofficial results, Sayer garnered 172 votes to Buschert's 159.

“I am looking forward to getting down to work,” said Sayer. “I am going to be listening to the people. We've got the budget that we are going to have to deal with right away. That will be our first order of business.

“I think we've got an excellent mix of people on council.”

In Division 6 Ken Heck has defeated Ron Vogel for the seat left vacant by incumbent Paddy Munro, who chose not to seek re-election.

According to unofficial results, Heck garnered 248 votes against Vogel's 228.

Like Sayer and Kemmere, Heck says he's keen to get down to work.

“I am looking forward to getting at it and getting my bearings,” said Heck.

He said addressing concerns with county roads will be an early priority for him.

Division 2 councillor Patricia McKean, Division 3 councillor Duncan Milne, Division 4 councillor Bruce Beattie, all incumbents, were elected by acclamation on Sept. 23.
