Numerous community service organizations are smiling after recently receiving a financial boost from area franchisees' annual fundraiser.

Every year, proceeds from the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign support charities and community groups throughout the country. This year's campaign was held April 29 - May 5.

The inaugural fundraiser was held in 1996 in support of the Hamilton Children’s Hospital. In the nearly 30 years since, the campaign has raised more than $111 million for causes that are selected by the restaurants’ respective owners, according to the company’s website.

Among them are Quinn Jacobs, who co-owns the establishments in Olds, Sundre, Didsbury, Bowden as well as Innisfail.

Jacobs told the Albertan during a phone interview on May 7 that just shy of $11,000 was raised in Olds for Hope 4 MVC Kids, while a little more than $9,000 generated in Sundre will go towards the Nutrition for Learning Society, with nearly $7,000 in Didsbury going to Essentials for our Community and almost $3,000 in Bowden earmarked for the Bowden Grandview School’s youth enhancement fund.

And last but certainly not least, a little more than $11,000 raised in Innisfail will go toward the École John Wilson Parents Society, which is the school’s parent council.

While the amounts raised this year were down a bit from 2023, the totals were otherwise roughly on par with the multi-year average, said Jacobs.

Proceeds from the Carstairs Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign went to the Carstairs Elementary School.
