INNISFAIL – A single-vehicle crash into an Innisfail duplex has left an elderly woman shaken and recovering from “medium"-level injuries at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
Gary Leith, director of protective services for the Town of Innisfail, said the Innisfail Fire Department received a call at around 8 p.m. on May 1 that a vehicle travelling on 46th Street left the road and crashed into the ground level of a duplex.
Leith said the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was an elderly lady in her “early 70s” and had a “medical” issue.
“It resulted with her crashing into the building,” said Leith, adding the impact of the vehicle caused structural damage to the duplex.
He said two fire trucks and a command vehicle from the Innisfail Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
Leith said the stricken elderly woman had to be extricated from her vehicle by attending emergency responders.
He said no other person, including occupants of the duplex, was injured as a result of the crash.
The elderly woman was then transported by ambulance to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for treatment of “medium”-level injuries, said Leith.
He said Innisfail RCMP were also at the scene and an investigation into the crash is continuing.
