INNISFAIL - The superintendent of the Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) has retired effective immediately, officials said in a release Tuesday.
Kathleen Finnigan has been replaced by associate superintendent of system service Ryan Ledene, who is now the 10,400-student division’s acting superintendent.
The May 13 release did not provide any details about why Finnigan has retired.
Contacted by the Albertan, Finnigan referred questions about her retirement to Ledene, who did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Finnigan was named superintendent of the division in October 2020 following a lengthy career as a teacher and administrator.
According to the RDRCS release, Ledene has been with the division since 1998, serving as an associate superintendent since 2012.
“Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools graciously thanks Dr. Finnigan for her years of service to our division and wishes her well in her future endeavours,” the release states.
The superintendent is responsible for overall operations of the school division.
The RDCRS division includes schools in Olds and Innisfail.
