Innisfail’s Men’s Shed steps up for Autumn Grove

With support from the Innisfail Lions Club, Men’s Shed members restore three outdoor benches next to the seniors’ lodge

INNISFAIL– A joint effort by Innisfail’s Men’s Shed and the Innisfail Lions Club has resulted in the full restoration of three benches beside Autumn Grove.

On May 7, six group members contributed five hours of volunteer work from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure folks at the seniors’ lodge and passing citizens have clean and attractive six-foot long benches to rest.

“We took off the old lumber, the two by fours, that were rotting there, and then we stripped it down to the metal of the posts that were already there in the ground,” said Dale Ray, current president of Central Alberta Men’s Shed (Innisfail). “We ground off all the old paint and rust, and then we put on new rust-preventive black paint.

“And then we replaced it with treated two by fours.”

Ray said they pursued the project after being told by the Innisfail Lions Club that Autumn Grove was looking to have the benches restored.

He said the service club then donated $500 for the project.

“We were all pretty happy, and enthused,” said Ray, adding the benches will be stamped with logos of Innisfail’s Men’s Shed and Innisfail Lions Club. “We had a good time doing it. Just getting up, working together on projects and being ourselves again.”
