INNISFAIL -  Local Mounties are seeking the public’s assistance for more information into a spree of bush fires police believe were intentionally set.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a media release that Innisfail RCMP and Innisfail Fire Department responded to a bush fire in Innisfail’s Raspberry Park at about 3:34 p.m. on June 8.

Savinkoff said the fires were lit in numerous locations within the wooded area and are believed to be intentional set.

He said the fire department was able to extinguish the fires and there were no injuries or damage to property.

“The intentional lighting of fires poses a significant risk to public safety and the safety of our community,” said Savinkoff. “Uncontrolled fires along with current dry conditions can be catastrophic for a community.”
