PENHOLD - Innisfail RCMP is probing a suspicious early morning vehicle fire near an outdoor rink.

At about 3 a.m. on Aug. 15 members of the Penhold Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Lincoln Street.

When firefighters arrived at the scene they discovered a vehicle on fire in the park area beside the outdoor rink. They then used the department's tender to quickly bring the fire under control.

“We pried open the trunk and hood area, and used our thermal imaging to make sure the fire was out for the tow truck operator," said Penhold fire Chief Jim Pendergast. "We have our tender set up like an airport fire truck so it can drive and apply water and foam at the same time and is very effective at bringing vehicle fires under control in seconds after arrival.”

A total of 17 firefighters with four units responded to the fire.

Pendergast said there were no injuries. RCMP are continuing their investigation.
