Innisfail artists’ works heading to Alberta Wide Show

Works judged as being among the best from the recent Alberta Community Art Clubs Association Central Zone Art Show and Sale in Sylvan Lake

INNISFAIL – The growing talent from the Innisfail Arts Club has spread its wings and soared high to achieve critical acclaim at a recent important art show in Central Alberta.

The works from four Innisfail artists were entered for the Alberta Community Art Clubs Association (ACACA) Central Zone Art Show and Sale that was held at the Sylvan Lake Community Centre on May 10 and 11.

The local artists who entered the show included club past president Carol-Lynn McKinnie; Rhonda VanVlaanderen, the club’s art lesson coordinator, Laurie Miller, and Iris White, a past president.

Their works were among the more than 70 original art pieces from 31 central Alberta artists across 11 communities.

“We were excited and pleased that four artists wanted to participate in the show, This was their first time doing it,” said McKinnie, who praised the Sylvan Lake Art Society, the show’s host. “They were very supportive and helpful with providing workshops, because one of the requirements is for the artist to prepare cardboard boxes to put their art into, so they were helping us with that.”

When the jurors’ selections were complete a total of 10 pieces of art entered by McKinnie, VanVlaanderen and Miller were judged by a panel of jurors to go on to ACACA’s Alberta Wide Show that is being held this summer at Edmonton’s Night of Artists Galley from Aug. 2 to 31.

Scholarships and awards, many named to honour  former ACACA members, are picked by the jurors the day before the opening of the Alberta Wide Show.

“I am so pleased that these four very talented artists chose to enter and happy Carol, Laurie and Rhonda’s pieces will move forward to the next stage, and we wish them all the best of luck,” said Wilma Watson, president of the Innisfail Art Club.

From the Edmonton show, the winners will go on to the Alberta Spirit Show that is being held at Drumheller’s BCF Gallery from Sept. 2 to 29.
